Although not all action films, the list below represents nearly all the Indonesian films that were exported to the world film markets. Between 1979 and 1995 the Indonesian film industry was able to expand beyond its own borders and the usual export markets of Malaysia, Singapore and Brunei. To many this has become an era of trash and exploitation cinema, but it also represents a golden age for the ambitions of the Indonesian film industry.
Progressively the section on action films here will be dedicated to exploring those titles that were exported overseas. Beginning with locally made films that became export items, to those later that employed foreign actors and directors. We hope to explore the background to many of these films as well as covering the films themselves.
